Typically if a child is having behavior difficulties at home or at school a psychological evaluation is often requested. Maybe the child is combative, or irritable. Maybe the child is withdrawn or sad. The child may have been sent to the counselor's office or parents may have tried to encourage the child, but if child's behavior does not change, than a psychological evaluation may be in order.
The child's academic and behavior history would be reviewed, and self-reports, parent, teacher information and projective tests would be administered.
When all the data is collected, parents will meet with the examiner who will review results and provide recommendations for the home and school setting. The parents may decide to share the psychological report with the school for 504 accommodations or the child's pediatrician.
